Hello, neighbors!

Fall is showing off around the lake this week. The forecast is dry and sunny, and Monday, Oct. 12 is the Columbus Day holiday, so double-check hours at banks and town offices. Here's what's happening in our five towns.

It's dry through the weekend, with just a 10–15% shower chance Sunday and Monday. Mornings are chilly early in the week, and higher terrain in northwest Connecticut could even see a first frost early Wednesday morning, so cover your tender plants.

Leaf watch: As of Oct. 4, every Connecticut county was turning but none had hit peak yet, and one tracker points to the week of Oct. 14 for Litchfield County. Need a walk with your color fix? Squantz Pond State Park in New Fairfield is a favorite. Go early on pretty days.

🐾 Pets in the Park | Sunday, Oct. 11 | Danbury

The 9th annual Pets in the Park runs Sunday, Oct. 11, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Candlewood Town Park, across from the Danbury PAL building. Bring your leashed pup for shopping, rescue groups and adoptable animals. The animal blessing is at 1:30 p.m. and the Parade of Pets costume contest is at 3 p.m. There's also free face painting, Jesse's Ice Cream and StreetSide Hot Dogs.

Admission is $3 for ages 13 and up, and parking is free. A portion of the proceeds benefits local animal shelters. The rain date is Oct. 18.

🎃 Pumpkin Palooza | Sat.–Sun., Oct. 10–11 | Danbury

Make it a doubleheader. Buy a pumpkin at Stew Leonard's on Oct. 10 or 11 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. and you're invited to free pumpkin painting in the Garden Shop's tent. That's 99 Federal Road.

🎭 100 Years of Curtain Calls | Saturday, Oct. 10 | Sherman

The Sherman Players are celebrating a full century of performances at the Sherman Playhouse, where the first show was staged in 1926. To mark it, they're hosting a Centennial Gala from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the JCC in Sherman, opening with a happy hour (6:30–7:30) and a look at photos from performances past. Tickets and details are at shermanplayers.org.

🌮 Comeback Kitchen: Momma's Tacos | New Milford

Momma’s Tacos

A fire at the Church Street building that houses Momma's Tacos closed the restaurant in spring 2025, and thankfully everyone got out safely. After about 13 months of repairs, Momma's reopened on May 17, 2026.

The menu brings back the favorites, including tacos, cochinita pibil, pernil, tortas, burritos, flautas, empanadas and enchiladas, with new chef Alberto Garcia in the kitchen. Find them at 17 Church St., (860) 717-4196. Their Facebook page notes they're closed Wednesdays, so check before you go.
