Your Candlewood Lake Weekend Guide: June 26–28

Mark your calendars, neighbors — this is one of those weekends where every town around the lake has something going on. Whether you're chasing fireworks, browsing local art, or dancing in the park, here's your town-by-town guide to making the most of it.

Friday, June 26

Brookfield Fireworks 🎆 Brookfield kicks things off early with its own Independence Day-style celebration, part of the town's America 250th anniversary festivities. Head to Brookfield Town Hall (100 Pocono Road) and find a good spot on the lawn — fireworks light up the sky at dusk, around 9:15 p.m. Free admission.

New Fairfield: NF 250 Trivia Throwdown The New Fairfield Community Service Club is hosting a trivia night themed around the town's 250th anniversary, starting at 7 p.m. A fun, low-key way to test your local history knowledge with neighbors.

Saturday, June 27

This is the big one — three towns, three very different vibes, all on the same night.

Danbury Independence Day Fireworks Celebration Candlewood Town Park comes alive from 5 to 9:30 p.m. with concessions, the band Junk playing live from 5:30–7:30 p.m., and fireworks capping off the night around 9:15 p.m. Free and family-friendly — just leave the alcohol at home, it's not permitted on-site.

New Milford Arts Festival Over on the New Milford Town Green, the Arts Commission's annual festival returns with fine artists, local artisans, and live performances spanning music, dance, and theater. A great one for an afternoon stroll before heading to fireworks elsewhere.

Brookfield Concerts in the Park Back in Brookfield, the town's summer concert series continues with Tangled Vine headlining — a lively mix of rock, soul, and R&B. Pack a chair and make an evening of it.

Tip: With Danbury's fireworks and New Milford's festival both happening Saturday, this could be a perfect "see a little of both" afternoon — art and music in New Milford, then fireworks in Danbury to close out the night.

New in Town: Housatonic Bounce Rentals Brings the Bounce to New Milford

If you've got a birthday party, school field day, or backyard bash coming up this summer, there's a new local option worth knowing about: Housatonic Bounce Rentals, a family-owned party and event rental business based right here in New Milford.

Who's Behind It

Housatonic Bounce Rentals is owned by Devon Marcinko a New Milford native who still lives by the philosophy that makes this area special — that small-town sense of community. By day, Devon works in the maritime shipping industry, but outside of work you'll likely find him golfing, boating on Candlewood Lake, hanging out poolside with his family. Devon and his wife started this business with a simple goal: build something local and dependable that families could feel good about booking for their kids' biggest moments.

What They Offer

Think bounce houses, water slide combos, and all the equipment needed to power a stress-free backyard event. Their inventory covers everything from classic bounce houses to slide-and-bounce combo units (some with built-in basketball hoops), plus the accessories — generators, water hoses, and more — to keep a party running smoothly. They'll set up on grass, pavement, or even indoors, with the right anchoring system for whatever surface you've got.

And it's not just for backyard parties — Housatonic Bounce Rentals also works with school events, church festivals, corporate picnics, breweries, town festivals, and family reunions.

Clean and Safe, By the Numbers

A few details that stood out:

  • 3-Step Clean process — every unit is swept, deep-cleaned with commercial vinyl cleaner and sanitizer, and inspected before it heads to your event

  • 100% lead-free vinyl on every inflatable

  • Watchdog Blower Siren System built in for added safety during use

  • Fully licensed and insured

How to Book

Housatonic Bounce Rentals serves New Milford and the surrounding towns. You can browse their full inventory and request a quote at housatonicbounce.com, or reach out directly:

If you've been looking for a local, family-run option for your next celebration, this one's worth bookmarking before the summer party season fills up.

Local Spotlight: Bruno’s Pizza, Pasta & Catering

If you haven't yet discovered Bruno's Pizza, Pasta & Catering on Route 37 in New Fairfield, consider this your invitation. For over 25 years, co-owners Anthony Bruno Jr. and Chef Anthony Spinelli have been serving up the kind of food that feels like it came straight from a Sunday table in the Bronx — because in many ways, it did. The two grew up steeped in Sicilian family cooking traditions, and that heritage shows in every dish they put out.

The menu is exactly what you'd want from a neighborhood Italian spot: signature pizzas, hearty pasta dishes, house-made soups, fresh salads, wings, and more — all made fresh with quality ingredients. But Bruno's doesn't stand still. Chef Anthony rolls out brand-new weekly specials every week, so even regulars always have something to look forward to. It's the kind of place where the food is familiar enough to feel like comfort, but creative enough to keep you coming back.

Whether you're sitting down for a casual dinner inside, grabbing a table on the outdoor patio, or swinging by for takeout on a busy weeknight, Bruno's has you covered. And when it comes to events — birthday parties, family gatherings, office celebrations — their catering menu brings the same bold Italian flavors to any occasion, big or small.

Bruno's is located at 100 State Route 37 in New Fairfield. Give them a call at 203-746-4229, check out the full menu at brunospizzact.com, or follow them on Facebook for the latest specials. Real Italian. Bold flavors. Right here in our backyard.
