Big Restaurant News Coming to Downtown New Milford 🥐🫒

Foodies, rejoice! According to New Milford's Economic Development Commission (which met earlier this month), downtown is about to get a whole lot tastier. The former Upper Crust spot is expected to reopen as a French restaurant, and the space that previously housed Boardman Bridge and Boardman Butchers is set to become a Mediterranean restaurant. No opening dates yet — but both concepts are in the works and the town is tracking them closely. Pair that with the new commercial kitchen going into the former H.H. Taylor site, and it's clear New Milford's downtown scene is genuinely heating up.

The town is also developing a new ordinance to discourage vacant storefronts — so expect even more activity on Main Street over the coming months.

This one's genuinely fun — New Milford's 3rd Annual Ice Cream Crawl is running now through August 25th, and it's expanded to 10 participating locations this year (up from 8 last year). Fall Fest at Twins BBQ Corn Maze Kicks Off August 30 🌽

We know it's still July, but here's something worth putting on the calendar RIGHT NOW: the Fall Festival & Corn Maze at Twins BBQ Co. officially opens on Saturday, August 30 at their Federal Road location in Brookfield.

The maze covers six acres with over a mile of pathways, two difficulty phases (Phase 1 for families and kids, Phase 2 for those who want a legit 60+ minute challenge), and a Corn Maze Passport with trivia questions to guide you through. And that's before you factor in the smoked brisket, the Tapville Taproom drinks, face painting, goats to pet, and live music. It runs through November 2, open Wed–Fri 3–5:30pm and weekends 11am–5:30pm. The idea is to cross-pollinate audiences — if something fun is happening in Sherman, New Milford hears about it, and vice versa. It's a small move, but it's exactly the kind of collaboration that makes the Candlewood Lake communities feel like one big, connected neighborhood rather than a bunch of separate towns minding their own business.
